A36 vs A500 vs 4140: Picking the Right Steel
Three Mistakes That Cost Customers Money
1. Using A36 where a tube would do. You end up adding bracing and weight to get stiffness a tube gives free.
2. Welding 4140 like mild steel. No preheat, wrong filler, and a crack shows up days later under load.
3. Specifying "steel" with no grade. A shop can quote the cheapest material that meets the words on the page. Name the grade, or tell us the load and we'll recommend one.
